Coast Redwood and Bald Eagle
Coast Redwood:
The limiting factors of density dependent could well be people removing trees in their area and natural habitat, and building houses. This would leave less room for the trees to disperse their seeds and ability to continue to reproduce. Seed production in plants is similarly affected by crowding (Biology 1110). Density independent are the factors that have to deal with weather and the factors that could affect them will likely be hurricanes, and fires. Fires are more likely due to the fact the land is dry out in California in some seasons so fires catch real easily. Items that limit the geographical distribution is, "Under the premise that coast redwood produces seeds of low viability, short storage life, and low survival following germination, the pathological aspects of sexual reproduction" (Internet 1). The lost of habitat demolishes the area that the seedlings have to disperse. My organism does not eat anything but absorbs nutrients through the ground by the roots. Most studies show that bacteria and fungal growth in the seedlings destroy parts of the plant. Yet, squirrels and other types of small animals eat the pinecones. The coast redwood is a producer and found at the bottom of the food chain. The ecosystem could be used for a nesting ground for my bald eagle but not very likely. If my ecosystem became extinct then there would be less carbon and oxygen cycling in the area.
Bald Eagle:
The density dependent limiting factors of the Bald Eagle are the cutting down of the natural habitat and limiting that area to small regions in the world. As a bird population density increases in a particular habitat and each female will lay fewer eggs (Biology 1110). Increasing population density causes decreased nutrient availability, resulting in a lower birth rate. The density independent factors would be weather such as climate but eagles tend to live in a cooler environment, and could easily migrate to new areas. Therefore hurricanes and fires that would destroy their habitat and people that move them to smaller areas affect their population. The reasons that the animal is limited to small areas is because of small reproduction and the area that they are confined to. There is not enough room for natural habitat. Bald eagles are quaternary consumers and feed on fish, snakes, dead animals, and snakes, also small rodents. If Bald eagles became extinct then the smaller animals and snakes would become greater since one less predator to prey on them.
