RESEARCH
PAPER
OPTION
PURPOSE OF
THE ASSIGNMENT
The ability
to write a report is a critical skill. This assignment asks you to
develop a research question, study sources, and convert the question
into a thesis statement. The key is to narrow your subject. Look at
the samples below.
- How did
the P-51 Mustang change the air war over Europe? Does the Mustang
deserve its reputation?
- How
does the P-51 or P-47 fighter plane of WWII stand as a metaphor of
women's achievement? This paper would focus on As Women's Air
Force Service Pilots (WASPS) and The Women's Auxiliary Ferrying
Squadron (WAFS), women trained to test fly and ferry
high-performance fighters.
- Did
leading isolationists between 1939 and 1941 lose faith in their
own creed, or did people stop believing them in the face of German
and Japanese ambitions?
- Why did
Truman and the United Nations authorize General MacArthur to
pursue NKPA forces to the Yalu River?
- Samantha
Power argues in The Problem from Hell that the tepid U.S. and
Western European response to "ethnic cleansing" in Bosnia led to
9-11. Does this argument hold?
- Have
generals since the 1990s been more prone to make public policy
statements? How does this compare to generals of the WWII
generation?
